Portions of 56th Street to Temporarily Close Beginning August 18

Lincoln Transportation and Utilities (LTU) today announced that portions of 56th Street will temporarily close beginning Sunday, August 18 for Lincoln Electric System utility work.

 

The intersection of 56th Street and Pioneers Boulevard will be closed from 3 to 9 p.m. Sunday, August 18. Recommended detours include:

  • Northbound traffic: Van Dorn Street to 48th Street to Nebraska Parkway
  • Southbound traffic: Nebraska Parkway to 48th Street to Van Dorn Street
  • Eastbound traffic: 48th Street to Normal Boulevard to 70th Street
  • Westbound traffic: 70th Street to Old Cheney Road to Nebraska Parkway to 48th Street

 

Daily closures will occur on 56th Street during the week of August 19. Each closure will begin 8 a.m. and will reopen when work is completed in the evening. The closure schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, August 19 – 56th Street between “A” and South streets. The recommended detour is “A” Street to 48th Street to South Street.
  • Tuesday, August 20 – A southbound lane of 56th Street between South and Van Dorn streets.
  • Wednesday, August 21 – A southbound lane of 56th Street between Van Dorn Street and Pioneers Boulevard.
  • Thursday, August 22 – A southbound lane of 56th Street between Pioneers Boulevard and Elkcrest Drive.

 

Travelers are encouraged to seek an alternate route and exercise caution around these closures. LTU appreciates the public’s patience during these closures and reminds residents that project dates are subject to change due to weather and unforeseen circumstances.
