Lincoln Hosts Several Cycling Events in May and June

Cyclists invited to celebrate Bike to Work Day with breakfast burritos and more
To celebrate National Bike Month in May, the City encourages area cyclists to visit Lincoln’s trail system and participate in a variety of local cycling events. Riders can track their miles and find more information about the National Bike Month Challenge in May at lovetoride.net.
Local cycling events this spring include the following:
Tour de Lincoln: Hosted by the Great Plains Trails Network, this free event series showcases trails in all four quadrants of the City. The four separate rides begin at 6 p.m. at the Jayne Snyder Trails Center, 228 North 21st St. For more information, visitgptn.org. The schedule is as follows:
- May 1 – Northwest Tour, 12 miles
- May 8 – Northeast Tour, 18 miles
- May 15 – Southwest Tour, 16 miles
- May 22 – Southeast Tour, 15 miles
Bike to Work Day, Friday May 16: From 7 to 9 a.m., the City will host five breakfast burrito stations on Lincoln’s trail system. Burritos will be available for purchase and must be ordered by May 11 online at lincoln.ne.gov/biketowork. Community members do not have to ride bikes to participate. The stations will also offer snacks, drinks, bike week buttons, and information on upcoming transportation planning processes. The locations are as follows:
- Northeast Station – Bethany Park, 66th and Vine streets via the MoPac Trail or StarTran Route 48
- Southeast Station – Holmes Lake Park, 70th Street and Homes North Shore Road via the Billy Wolff Trail or StarTran Route 40
- Southwest Station – Rock Island/Boosalis Trailhead, 4300 S. 27th St. via the Rock Island Trail or Helen Boosalis Trail or StarTran Route 56
- Northwest Station – Lincoln NW. High School, NW. 50th and West Holdrege streets via the NW. 48th Street Trail or StarTran Route 46
- Central Station – Elliott Elementary School, 225 S. 25th St. via the Billy Wolff Trail or StarTran Route 53
Trail Trek, Sunday, June 22: The event begins at Lincoln East High School, 1000 S. 70th St., and features six routes, ranging from nine to 48 miles. Each participant receives a shirt, lunch, on-trail water and snacks, and more. To register or for more information, visitgptn.org.
