Employer Partners Needed for Incumbent Worker Training Program
Published on April 07, 2025
The Greater Lincoln Workforce Development Board and American Job Center today announced they are seeking employers to participate in the Incumbent Worker Training Program. The deadline to apply is May 15 and the application form is available at lincoln.ne.gov/Upskill.
“Employer partners in the Incumbent Worker Training Program help employees gain the skills necessary to retain employment, advance within their company, or prevent them from being laid off,” said Dylan Wren, American Job Center Workforce Administrator.
Wren said that in the prior program year, Bryan Health, Heartland Gourmet, Kawasaki, and Instinct Pet Food served 236 participants.
Training may relate to an introduction of new technologies, learning English, introduction to new production or service procedures, upgrading to new jobs that require additional skills, workplace literacy; or other appropriate purposes identified by the Board.
This is a matching program, Wren said, with most employers covering 50% of the training costs – typically through wages paid to employees while they attend training. The American Job Center provides a matching contribution for this training initiative. Staff from the American Job Center can help in the development of curriculum. Once a training plan is created, the Workforce Board must review the request.
The Strategic Initiatives Committee will review all applications submitted by May 15. Recommendations will be forwarded to the Workforce Board for final review and discussion at the June 5 board meeting, which is open to the public.
