South Coddington Avenue & West Van Dorn Street Safety Improvement Project

Intent of Project

The purpose of this project is to reduce vehicle crashes by significantly reducing the number of conflict points at the intersection. A single-lane roundabout will be constructed within the intersection.

The project includes the phased construction of new concrete pavement, trails, sidewalks and box culvert extensions; the installation of a new storm drainage system; and new signage, pavement markings and street lighting.

Proposed Intersection Improvements

The phasing will allow at least three legs of the intersection to remain open during construction. Drivers should expect single-lane closures, and detour routes will be posted at the site.

Access to adjacent businesses and residents will be maintained at all times and no known access restrictions are anticipated during construction. Access will be coordinated with the property owners throughout construction. Businesses and residents with multiple entrances will have one entrance open at all times, unless otherwise agreed to by the property owner. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Project Schedule

Construction began April 24, 2017. The roadway is scheduled to be opened to traffic in July 2018.

Detour routes have been planned for each phase of the project.
