Lincoln Recycles Week 2020

The City and local recyclers will celebrate Lincoln Recycles Week, November 9 through the 13, 2020. America Recycles Day, November 15th, is a nationally recognized opportunity to promote how to recycle right and a time for Lincoln to highlight where and how to recycle in our community.

Scrap Metal Drive to Support LPS Recycling Program

This year’s scrap metal drive to raise funds for the Lincoln Public Schools’ (LPS) recycling program includes Sadoff Iron and Metal Company, 4400 West Webster St., and Alter Metal Recycling, 6100 N. 70th St. Donations will be accepted through Earth Day, April 22, 2021. All types of scrap metal will be accepted, including aluminum and tin cans, pots and pans, appliances, wiring, sinks, bathtubs and electric motors. Residents who want their recycling revenue to go LPS need to notify Sadoff or Alter when bringing in recyclable scrap metal items. What is/isn’t accepted as scrap metal recycling can be found on the each business’s website. The donations will help LPS replace worn out steel recycling containers.

Residents are reminded that HazToGo, Lincoln’s Hazardous Waste Center, 5101 North 48th Street, offers household hazardous waste disposal services every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department program also accepts household hazardous waste on the third Saturday of the month by appointment. Accepted items include pesticides, old gasoline, cleaning products, aerosol containers and items containing mercury. For and a list of acceptable items, visit haztogo.com.

Recyclables Collection at Seacrest Site

The celebration of Lincoln Recycles Week will conclude with an event held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Seacrest Recyclables Collection Site, 7300 “A” Street During this time, there will be an opportunity to recycle a variety of items at no cost. These include:

  • Wood waste collection will be available from Hofeling Enterprises – wood must be clean and dry such as tree debris and pallets.
  • Shredding Solutions will provide paper shredding and recycling.
  • Star City Recycling will provide electronics recycling – for a list of what is accepted visit: www.starcityrecycling.com/what-we-recycle

Additionally, Bin Buddies Recycling Assistance Team volunteers will be at this site throughout the afternoon answering questions about what is/isn’t recyclable to educate and emphasize the importance on how to recycle right.
