Public Invited To Dedication Of Schleich Park

Mayor Coleen J. Seng invites the public to the dedication and ribbon-cutting of Stephen C. Schleich Park at 4 p.m. Wednesday, September 8 at 34th and Ridge Park Drive. The four-acre park is named for the late Stephen C. Schleich, a Lincoln native who was the co-owner of HOME Real Estate and President of its Land Development Division. The Schleich family donated funds, equipment and labor for the park, which includes play equipment and a half-court basketball facility.

Speakers at the dedication will include Mayor Seng; Gerald Schleich, Stephen’s father; Mike Eckert, a Schleich family friend and former employee; and Lynn Johnson, Director of the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department.

The Schleich family said Stephen, who passed away in November 2000, had a special interest in creating affordable housing and was strongly devoted to the welfare of children. He graduated from Lincoln East High School in 1981, Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1986, and the UNL College of Law in 1988. Stephen, along with other members of the Schleich family, developed more than 60 Lincoln subdivisions including Northridge Heights, the site of the new park.
