Children to Be Chosen to Judge Parade

Mayor Coleen J. Seng today encouraged children ages 8 through 14 to apply now to be a judge for the 20th celebration of the Star City Holiday Parade December 4. The theme for this year’s parade is “Our Lasting Treasure.” It is presented by First National Bank and produced by Updowntowners, Inc., the Downtown Lincoln Association and the City of Lincoln.

“Children are ‘our lasting treasure,’ and this annual event is dedicated to them,” said Mayor Seng. “Our parade is judged entirely by children. The opportunity to be a judge is a once in a lifetime experience, and I hope many children will apply.”

To apply, children are asked to write a short essay (three to four sentences) telling about their lasting treasures. They should send the essay along with their names, ages (as of December 1, 2004), addresses and phone numbers to Parade Headquarters, 1200 “N” Street, Suite 101, Lincoln, NE 68508. Applications must be received by Friday, November 5.

The judges will have special seating at the parade and will be assisted by an adult mentor. Parents will be seated in a reserved area nearby.
