The public is invited to an open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6 to discuss the proposed reconstruction of South 56th Street from Shadow Pines Drive to Old Cheney Road. The meeting will take place in the multi-purpose room at Humann Elementary School, 6720 Rockwood Lane.
The project will include construction of two lanes of travel in each direction with a raised median and left- and right-turn lanes at major intersections. Other improvements include sidewalks, a trail along the west side of 56th Street, storm sewers, utilities, lighting, the reconstruction of the Beal Slough and a pedestrian undercrossing. The project is expected to begin in 2014, and federal funds are covering about 80 percent of the cost.
The open house will not include a formal presentation, but those attending will be able to review the proposed plans and discuss the project with representatives from the design team and City staff.
The meeting room is accessible for persons with disabilities. Those requiring additional special accommodations are asked to contact Kris Humphrey, City Engineering Services, at 402-326-1176. If you have questions regarding the open house, contact Humphrey or Fred Beck, E&A Consulting Group, 402-420-7217. More information can be found at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: 56th Street).
