The Lincoln-Lancaster County Health Department (LLCHD) recognized a local physician, a public school district, a local restaurant, the Capital Humane Society, and five individuals with Board of Health Awards May 2. The awards were presented at the Board of Health Annual Luncheon and Awards Ceremony at the Bryan Health Conference Center. The keynote speaker at the event was Ayman El-Mohandes, M.D., Dean of the College of Public Health at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
A Community Health Award was presented the Capital Humane Society for its collaboration on several projects that support the goals of the Animal Control Program. A Community Health Award also was presented to David Brown Ph.D., Roger Fisher D.D.S. and Charles Genrich D.D.S. for their role in developing a maintaining a safety net for dental patients in the community. They volunteer their services at Clinic With A Heart and serve low income and uninsured children and adults.
The Public Health Leadership Award was presented to State Senator Kathy Campbell for her commitment to health care for the poor and safety for abused and neglected children.
The John J. Hanigan Award was presented to Michelle Petersen M.D. for her leadership in the medical field, her advocacy for public health and her work to teach and promote healthy lifestyles.
Food Sanitation Excellence Awards were presented to the Knolls Restaurant and the Waverly Public Schools.
The Carole Douglas Public Health Achievement Award was presented to Gina Egenberger, who has worked for LLCHD for eight years. She was recognized for her work as LLCHD's Child Care Health Consultant and for her promotion of health, safety and environmental initiatives in the child care community.
