The west leg of the South Coddington Avenue and West Van Dorn Street intersection is closed for paving and utility improvements. The work follows the reopening of the north leg late last week. Project phasing continues to keep three legs of the intersection open throughout the project and maintain local access to adjacent businesses and homes. The east leg of the intersection will be the final phase of the project, with completion expected in July.
The project began in 2017 and is designed to reduce vehicle crashes by converting a two-way, stop-controlled intersection into a single-lane roundabout. Other improvements include repairing and rebuilding adjacent sidewalks, trails and box culvert extensions and installing a new storm drainage system and street lights.
Drivers are encouraged to exercise caution around construction crews and use alternate routes. Detour routes are posted at lincoln.ne.gov (keyword: Coddington). The Public Works and Utilities Department appreciates the public's patience during construction.
