The voter-approved quarter-cent sales tax to fund street improvements takes effect Tuesday, October 1, 2019 for the City of Lincoln. The City recently mailed 17,000 postcards to businesses to remind them of the sales tax change, which was approved by voters in April. The tax will be in effect for six years, and is expected to generate $13 million for streets annually.
The City will begin to receive the revenue in December. The first work to be funded by the new dollars will begin in the spring of 2020. The 14-member Advisory Committee on Transportation (ACT) appointed by the Mayor is scheduled to make its recommendations by the end of October on the priority street projects for the first year of construction.

In November, the public will have another opportunity to comment on the ACT recommendations when the City Council holds a public hearing and considers amendments to the City's Capital Improvement Plan.
