The Pioneers Park Nature Center and Wild Bird Habitat Store invite the public to a free bird counting event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, at the Center, 3201 S. Coddington Ave. Participants will meet at the Chet Ager Building. Birders of all levels are welcome, and no registration is required.
The event is part of the Great Backyard Bird Count and includes a guided hike and bird feeder watch. Dave Titterington with the Wild Bird Habitat Store will help identify birds and share tips on how to attract birds. A Wildlife Rescue representative will be available to sign up volunteers to help care for baby birds this spring.
The Great Backyard Bird Count is a project by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society, which enlists citizens worldwide to gather data on wild birds February 14 through 17. All data collected at the Nature Center event will be submitted as part of the project.
