Biking on Sidewalks

Pedestrians always have the right-of-way when riding on a sidewalk. It is also important to have a bell in order to alert pedestrians of your presence. In Lincoln, bicyclists are permitted on sidewalks except for in the downtown area.

Lincoln City Ordinance forbids riding bicycles on sidewalks in these areas:

  • Downtown
      º   South line of 'K' Street to the north line of 'R' Street
      º   East line of 16th Street to the west line of 9th Street
      º   South line of 'O' Street to the north line of 'R' Street
      º   East line of 9th Street to the west line of 7th Street


  • Havelock Avenue, 61st to 63rd
  • 48th Street, Baldwin to Madison
  • West side of 48th, Prescott to Cooper
  • Prescott, 47th to 48th
  • West side of 66th, Holdrege to Fairfax
