"You Drink & Drive, You Lose" Campaign
This holiday season, the Lincoln Police Department will join law enforcement agencies nationwide by participating in the “You Drink & Drive, You Lose” enforcement campaign. This special holiday enforcement will be conducted from Friday, December 4, 2009 through Saturday, January 2, 2010. The Nebraska Office of Highway Safety is providing funding for off-duty officers to remove drunk and drugged drivers from our roadways during a time of increased alcohol consumption. These additional officers will be added on Friday and Saturday evenings during peak activity hours, 9pm-3am. Patrol will be conducted throughout the city, targeting high volume traffic areas.
Last year, Lincoln police officers investigated 8,909 traffic accidents - 1,793 of those accidents included injuries and 6 were fatal. Officers also arrested a record breaking 2,215 drivers in 2008 for driving under the influence.
