First Phase of Underage Drinking Project Complete
On August 20, 2011, the Lincoln Police Department's Northwest Team began a project aimed at impacting underage drinking and the illegal activity associated with it. Teams of officers patrolled neighborhoods, focusing on party disturbances and impaired driving. Funding for this increased enforcement was provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.
The first phase of the project was completed on September 11, 2011. During that time, the officers involved issued twenty-nine criminal citations, three DUI citations and four other traffic related warning citations. Seventeen (59%) of the criminal citations were for Minor in Possession of Alcohol.
Additional funding has been provided by the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety for a second phase of this project. During the month of October, officers will continue to employ tactics aimed at reducing binge drinking and alcohol related offenses.
