27th Street Pavement Repair Project
Updated March 17, 2016
The City of Lincoln began construction in August 2015 on a concrete pavement repair project in several areas along 27th Street. After suspending construction during the winter months, work resumed the week of February 29, 2016 in the areas from Highway 2 to Woods Blvd. and Alpha to Holdrege. Work in the area of Fletcher Ave to Wildcat Dr. is scheduled to begin March 22, 2016. Please see the estimated construction schedule below for more details.
Intent of Project
This is a pavement preservation project intended to maintain and improve the driving surface of the existing roadway facility. The need for the improvement is based upon information from the City of Lincoln's Pavement Management System (overall condition rating) and visual inspections by City staff. Pedestrian curb ramps that do not meet current Federal and local standards would be reconstructed to meet those standards.
Scope of Work
Construction will include repairing or removing and replacing deteriorated concrete panels, joints and curbs; and sealing joints and cracks. Other work includes removing and replacing damaged storm sewer inlet tops, curb ramps that do not meet Federal and local standards, and reconstruction of traffic signal elements impacted by the work.
Estimated Construction Schedule
Highway 2 to Woods Blvd.
Pavement repairs and other related work along 27th Street from Highway 2 to Woods Boulevard have been completed. Seeding and final cleanup of the area still remain and will take place later this spring during the allowed seeding periods, approximately April 15th thru May 30th.
Fletcher to Wildcat
Work between Fletcher Ave. and Wildcat Dr. is scheduled to resume the evening of March 22nd with lane closures being set in place. Milling operations will begin March 23rd and are estimated to be complete by the end of the week. Curb ramps will be removed and replaced to meet ADA standards and any remaining paving repairs will also be completed at this time. Asphalt surfacing is expected to begin April 4th and with all work expected to be complete by mid-April.
Alpha to Holdrege
Work between Alpha St. and Holdrege St. began the week of February 29, 2016 in the southbound lanes at 27th and Holdrege St. and continues south towards Alpha St. Weather permitting, concrete pavement repair work is expected to be complete by September 2016 with final completion of the project in May 2017.
Proposed Accommodation of Traffic During Construction
The work will be completed under lane closures. A minimum of one lane will be open to northbound and southbound traffic at all times. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained and any access restrictions will be coordinated with the property owner. Properties with multiple entrances will have one entrance open at all times, unless otherwise agreed to by the property owner. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the duration of the project. Alternate pedestrian routes and or detours will be provided during the reconstruction of curb ramps. All lanes will be open to traffic during the winter months.
