Construction of the Pavement and Joint Repair project on Old Cheney Rd. from Warlick to 40th St. is near completion. The contractor has completed the pavement and joint repair portion of the project. The contractor will begin the final phase of the project starting July 5th. The last phase of the project involves milling and overlaying the area on Old Cheney between 27th and 40th with asphalt.
Intent of Project
This is a pavement preservation project intended to maintain and improve the driving surface of the existing roadway facility. The need for the improvement is based upon information from the City of Lincoln's Pavement Management System (overall condition rating) and visual inspections by City staff. Pedestrian curb ramps that do not meet current Federal and local standards will be reconstructed to meet those standards.
Scope of Work
Construction will include repairing or removing and replacing deteriorated concrete panels, joints and curbs; and sealing joints and cracks. Other work includes removing and replacing damaged storm sewer inlet tops, curb ramps that do not meet Federal and local standards, and reconstruction of traffic signal elements impacted by the work.
Estimated Construction Schedule
Pavement repair along Old Cheney Rd. from 27th St. to 40th St. began September 8, 2015. All lanes were opened mid-November while work was suspended for the winter. Work resumed Monday, March 21, 2016 in the area between Warlick and 40th St. All remaining work along the Old Cheney Rd. corridor will be completed by August of 2016, with the exception of seeding and final close out items which will be completed by October of 2016.

Proposed Accommodation of Traffic During Construction
The work will be completed under lane closures. Access to adjacent properties will be maintained and any access restrictions will be coordinated with the property owner. Properties with multiple entrances will have one entrance open at all times, unless otherwise agreed to by the property owner. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times. Pedestrian access to businesses, residences, and trails will be maintained throughout the duration of the project via alternate pedestrian routes and/or detours provided during the reconstruction of curb ramps.
All work is anticipated to take place within existing right-of-way and easements.
Property owners, businesses, and associations with direct access off Old Cheney Rd. received a Project Information Flyer containing the general scope of work, construction schedule, and points of contact for questions pertaining to the project.
