Affordable Youth Activities

SoccerHuddle2.jpeg

Our community has a current trend of increasing youth rates of obesity, vaping, and worsening rates of mental health and fitness levels. These are key risk factors that can lead to heart disease and diabetes. This CHIP priority will collaborate with youth-serving community partners to assess barriers to physical activity opportunities for youth and develop intervention strategies that will increase their access.

Action

  1. An Environmental Scan was completed with partners from youth serving organizations.
  2. The Community Health Endowment has completed an assessment that will help identify context for creating action strategies in this area is related to the goal to provide pro-social activities-for lower socio-economic youth, whose families cannot necessarily afford fees, equipment, and travel.
  3. A new concept of a youth activities passport is being explored. The context of a Passport would be developing funding sources for children to be afforded the opportunity to do pro-social activities, they could not otherwise do.
  4. A resource was identified to help provide assistance locally. The National Alliance for Youth Sports has resources for the best youth sports experiences for children.
